2014 Off to a Flyer

After Christmas most of my winter was occupied by training for the London Marathon.

If anyone has run, or trained for a Marathon, many of you can relate to just how addictive and how easily the training can become.

Thankfully I have a very loving and supportive wife, who understood just how important the run mean’t to me. Having a competitive streak in me, my finishing time was important and to run sub 3 hrs 30 mins was a goal I wanted to achieve on a personal level.

However the fundraising was the main focus for taking part. Two years ago, along with support from friends and family I raised over £3000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and this time in 2014 my goal was to reach £5,000

In an attempt to create the awareness I went all out with Neon Pink Hair almost a month before race day. Therefore by the time 19th March arrived it was no surprise I felt a little unprepared for my first UK Trick Show of 2014.

Thanks to Ipswich Town Football Club my fundraising for Breakthrough was off to a healthy start just one day after visiting Hair Stylist Rosemarie Smith. Rose was a long time friend of my Mum’s therefore it seemed fitting Rose would be very much involved in the campaign, something Mum would have loved and been very proud of.

Following the Ipswich Town Golf Day, I peformed a further two shows prior to the Marathon at StockBrook Manor and Three Rivers Golf Club, both of which were very supportive for my chosen charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Race day soon arrived and all the heard training was done. It was a beautiful sunny morning in London. I felt very nervous before the start, however once the race was was underway the nerves settled. I stuck to my game plan running at 8 minute miles which brought me home in a very respectable 3:28:47

It was lovely to see many friends along the route cheering me on, especially seeing my family along the embankment which gave me that final push to the end.

Thanks to everyone who kindly donated via my just giving and sponsorship page. The figure raised so far is over £4,000 although I have some exciting news to announce very soon which will take my total comfortably over £5,000
